His unique gift for creating an intimate connection with his audience has attracted loyal listeners from across the continent and overseas. Come to a show and you will feel the love.
Mark began writing poems for his teacher in fifth grade and soon discovered the magic of music. As a child, Mark accompanied John Sebastian at the 1986 Genie Awards, sang the national anthem at a major league baseball game, and went on to study piano, guitar, didgeridoo, percussion, mandolin, creative writing and voice.
Mark honed his craft on the road, touring steadily and has performed at off Broadway theatres, roadhouses, stadiums, concert halls, street corners and cafés around the world. His music is received with great enthusiasm and his written works have appeared in international publications in three different languages.
No barrier separates the audience from the musicians at Mark's shows. Everyone participates in his or her own way and volunteers are given parts to play during select songs. Some play with shakers, others paint. Everyone's encouraged to sing along and few leave a show without a hug from Mark.
The albums Mark's Patchwork (Kind Records, 2000) and Homemade Series I (Kind Records, 2001) feature an eclectic patchwork of musical guests, including a seven year old soul singer, a Colorado cowboy and musical greats from bands including Janis Joplin's Full Tilt Boogie Band, The Band and others. "Bless the One" was heard on radio across North America attracting attention from networks such as CNN, CBS and CBC, helping to raise funds for the families of the victims of 9-11… His latest single, "Homemade", featuring the All Gods Children Harlem Gospel Choir, was a finalist at the UK Songwriting Contest. Mark's highly anticipated solo album, "Breeze Home", was recently released in front of a packed house at Hugh's Room in Toronto, drawing comparisons to Van Morrison, Paul Simon and Ben Harper.
Mark's concerts and albums continue to receive glowing reviews from the media and music circles alike, establishing Mark Weinstock as one of Canada's preeminent emerging talents and one of its best kept secrets.
